Drunk driving is an epidemic in the United States. Between 2003 and 2012, alcohol-related traffic fatalities reached 119,100. While we’ve made huge strides in traffic safety and have seen the total number of traffic fatalities drop dramatically, the number of deaths related to a motorist driving while intoxicated have remained steady and account for a staggering 31% of automobile accident deaths. While DWI and DUI arrests are on the rise, it has not made a notable mark as an effective deterrent.
