What’s the biggest industry in your state? In many states, a huge percentage of the state’s gross domestic product (GDP) and total workforce comes from a single industry. For example, the biggest industry in Oregon is computer and electronic products manufacturing which makes up a whopping 21% of the GDP for the entire state. Some are quite obvious like Michigan and the motor vehicle industry, but some are quite surprising such as Louisiana and the chemical industry. This map shows which industry makes up the largest percentage of each state’s GDP (or total revenue overall) and the total GDP of that industry in that state alone.
